Big Sky Simmentals started in 1989 when we purchased our first purebred. We started into 4H with our kids and Young Canadian Simmental shows and havenat looked back since. We still try to attend local summer fairs as well as Brandon, Manitoba Livestock Expo and Agribition in Regina, Saskatchewan.

We are a family-owned-and-operated business with Mathew and Marguerite Smith, son Brad 'and his wife Lauren' and daughter, Amy and her husband, Trevor Peters. We all work together to spread out the work and maintain some full-time jobs!A

We maintain a herd of females that have perfect udders, are sound on their feet and are built to last a long time. We would like to think we are striving for performance cattle. We tend to first select on frame score, as we like to keep the size of our females moderate to large frame, the type that can raise bulls and replacements! Not to forget fleshing ability, we donat want to be pouring a pile of feed into them to get them ready. Our bulls are slowly developed for muscle development before fat and longevity. We have a strict culling process regarding confirmation and testicle size.

Our feed program is developed by Amy and we strive to develop our seed stock right from baby calf to maturity. Preparing their rumens to digest and absorb nutrients for years to come, keeping feet and legs under them as well.

We have come a long way in 20 years, going from broken coloured full Swiss fullbloods to 3-4 generations goggle eyed, solid coloured full Flecks and solid red factor genetics. We are currently breeding 60 full Flecks, 40 red factors, 25 fullbloods, and 150 commercial Simmentals. We are also AIaing, flushing, and transplanting with the best genetics you can find!
